shirleyhazel
Hi everyone, I am new to this discussion. I am here on behalf of my mom who had her cochlear implanted about 4 years ago. Since then, she has had severe dizziness to the point she needs a cane now. There has not been a day since surgery she has not been without this. She has been to PT for the Epley Maneuver (sp?) which at first helped a bit but never took it away. Has anyone had this problem with their implant? It is so bad at times, she can hardly function. Her surgeon has very little to say and just dismisses her as it's no longer his problem. Please help!!!!!! HearPeers Heroes Ivana Marinac Posted July 26, 2015 HearPeers Heroes Report Share Posted July 26, 2015 Hello Shirley, welcome to the Hearpeers. I have read your question with great interest because delayed vertigo after cochlear implantation is well documented event which has been described from multiple point of view. There are various possible different diagnoses which should be evaluated. As I am an ENT specialist I would approach to the problem at first from the side - what are physical signs and when it happens. Also, I guess additional diagnostic research has been conducted? If the CI device of your mother is Med-El's I would contact the representative. Otherwise a skillful vestibulologist, a vestibular subspecialist could understand the problem. It is very rare that vertigos are so hard even after 4 years without central compensations. ErikHaugsby
Hi Shirley, thanks for writing here. Like Ivana suggested, I would also recommend that your mother get in touch with her MED-EL representative to talk about this in person. What I'll do is send you a private message to get some more information so I can get you/your mother in touch with a representative close to her. HearPeers Heroes Adam Posted August 2, 2015 HearPeers Heroes Report Share Posted August 2, 2015 If they did the Epley maneuver, that is usually done when they sue t that you have BPPV ( Benign Proximal Positional Vertigo) I had this problem and went through the Epley as well as the Branch Dardoff maneuver. These didn't do too much to tKe care of the problem so I was referred to vestibular rehab.
