http://librivox.org/– a collection of public domain books recorded by volunteer readers. Very cool! Most link to the transcription that was used to make the recording and match up word for word

.

http://www.esl-lab.com/– a site with many recordings and quizzes designed for English as a Second Language practice.

http://www.hearingjourney.com/Listening_Room/Teens_and_Adults/Listening_Gym/index.cfm?langid=1– Advanced Bionics Listening Room has various activities for training and evaluating speech sounds as well as music.

http://www.medel.com/US/Rehabilitation/sound-scape.php– Med-El’s listening resources.

1-800-458-4999 & http://www.cochlearcommunity.com/rehabfor transcripts

This is a telephone recording, refreshed each day. Pressing 1 – 1 gives you “Today’s word list”. Pressing 1 – 2 gives you “Today’s passage” (usually a piece from a Fairy Tale of some sort). Assorted voices, male and female, accents seem quite neutral

http://www.research.att.com/~ttsweb/tts/demo.php– AT&T labs speech synthesizer – type any text into the box and hear it spoken back with different voices.

Yep, forgot those. They are very good. I didn't use AB CLIX but did use Amgel Sounds

Don't forget the rehab available on the Medel sight as well. I used it a lot in the beginning.

I had trouble with it. Wouldn't down load or other issues. Needed a second person to do it with me. I like to do my training by myself as I easily get distracted.

I couldn't use angel sounds the voice was too low in tone. I liked AB clix. As I was saying the med el site gave me trouble.

I would give the Medel site another go. Maybe check the speed on your computer

I was just at my one moth mapping and they told me to do audiobooks and telephone training for now. She said that the audiobooks will help best with the type of speech comprehension I need right now. As well as telephone training which is through cochlear.

Good advice, I think I read all of my childhood stories many times while listening to them at the same time during my rehab

Ivana,

I've been joking around at home that ever since I started researching CIs it's like I'm prepping for a dissertation. I have read more research studies this year than I ever did in grad school!

That's great Marybeth. Very true! There is a lot of information out there. The more we learn the better.

Mary Beth - it's no wonder when it's so exciting interdisciplinary activity. ;)

Well, this is at least a good neural exercise! ;)

That's right: Repetitio est mater studiorum. ;)

Makes such a big difference knowing people with shared experiences.

Enormous difference when you understand how it should work from a technical standpoint and when you actually see or feel from an individual experience.

Like Michelangelo's The Creation of Adam:

One of those WOW moments...
