Hello! My nabs is Ernesto and I am a new Med-El recipient.   My surgery was on the 22nd of December and my activation will be on the 10th of January.   I have many questions but I'll browse the logs before posting questions that have been airway answered.

@Ernesto Welcome to the CI world!

I had my CI done almost a year before (implant January 8th, activation ~20th)  so you are welcome to look at my posts in that context if it helps.  Everyone's journey is different and the HearPeers community has been an incredible help and companion on the journey.  2024 will be a very interesting year for you!

Is your non-implanted ear normal hearing or suffering loss?  Mine is normal so I'm Single-Sided-Deaf or SSD.  We SSD'ers are a small but rapidly growing population in the CI community.

By the way, many of us put some brief summary into our profile signatures which helps give context for both our answers and questions.  The result is you can see @Mary Beth has a lot more experience than me.

Again, welcome to the community and based on your profile picture, thanks for your service.

Wishing you a wonderful 2024!

@TimThank you, Tim.  Although I am a candidate to be implanted bilaterally,  I will be bimodal; my left ear will use a powerful hearing aid that will work with my processors.

Hi, @Ernesto

Welcome to the CI jurney. I am almost 6 months post activation, and I love my CI!

Currently listening to music via bluetooth as I type this.

I wish you a lot of happy moments with your CI, the scary part, the surgery is already over!

Congratulations! Activation day is definitely something to look forward to! You may hear a little or hear a lot, you may understand a little or not at all, but it is the beginning of your journey, and your brain is amazing, it makes it all happen!  Keep in mind that wherever you are when you leave your audiology appointment, your brain will learn, and you will be understanding speech better and better.  Enjoy the ride!😀
