@MED-EL Moderator and @MED-EL Moderator Barbara , I just wanted to follow up on the above questions. Thank you again in advance for your help with answering these questions!

@Ely, thank you for your patience as we checked in with our product experts here at MED-EL HQ.

  1. Drying is required to protect your processor long-term from the humidity. That's why we recommend that you dry the audio processor once a day (preferably overnight); however, how often you need to dry the device can also depend on the humidity in your environment. Excessive perspiration or high humidity in the air requires more frequent use of the drying kit.
  2. AudioLink XT uses a micro USB; however, we know that USB-C is a wish for many users. Your feedback will be shared with the responsible team here at MED-EL.
  3. SONNET 3 uses the 5.2 version Bluetooth.
  4. Yes, SONNET 3 is slightly thicker at the top but has an ergonomic design, making it more comfortable to wear.
  5. SONNET 2 and SONNET 3 battery pack covers are compatible, meaning they are the same width. Thanks for your input regarding the visual comparison of the processors - we will forward this to the right team here at MED-EL.

Kind Regards

SONNET 3 is out now!

Check out our website for more: https://hearlife.medel.com/campaigns/sonnet3

If I were interested in buying the Sonnet 3  out of Pocket, how much would  a pair cost in theUS?

If I had a bluetooth microphone or bluetooth stereo system, would it be possible to stream straight to the cochlear without the need to use AudioLink XT?

Hi @MED-EL Moderator Thank you for the follow up. a few follow up questions.

1. Drying:
a) For the drying, does this mean that there will be no change in the drying process for the Sonnet 3 despite the higher waterproof rating? Will the guidance be any different than for the Sonnet 2?
b)Also when the Sonnet 3 is released, will it still come with the same dryer currently used with the sonnet 2, or is there possibly a newer version that is maybe smaller or USB C compatible? Or ideally a travel option of some sort?

2. Will the battery charger that comes with the Sonnet 3 also be micro-usb? If yes, is there maybe a version available in Europe or somewhere that uses usb-c due to the regulatory requirements there around USB-C adoption? (similar question for all of the other accesories)

3. Thank you for clarifying this. It at least gives up hope that the firmware could be updated to support Bluetooth LE Audio/Auracast in the future. On a related note, is there any partnership with Apple/Android that would allow for simultaneous streaming with both a single Rondo 3 and a regular headphone/earbud? I know there are some partnerships specific to hearing aids, but for those of us with SSD, having a way to stream to a regular earbud simultaneously would be extremely helpful. I know this is something Bluetooth LE Audio natively supports, but technically it is possible with regular bluetooth 5.2 using either the MFi or ASHA (both Apple and Android Support it in different ways and I know Med-El works closely with both, so not sure if there has been any collaboration on this point.

4./5. You noted that the Sonnet 2 and Sonnet 3 battery pack covers are compatible and are the same width. However, the diagrams for both devices show a slight difference in width at the base. (9.3 and 9.5 for the Sonnet 2 and Sonnet 3 respectively). Can you confirm what this width difference is referring to? Also release site for the Sonnet 3 noted that the battery covers are smaller/more space efficient. I assume they are the same width at the top where they connect to the processor, but it seems like they are different below that point. Would you be able to provide additional specification information about the standard and max battery covers for the Sonnet 2 and the standard and max battery covers for the Sonnet three (length, width, heigh, changes in width at the top and bottom etc.) just so we can better understand what is changing?

Thank you so much in again for looking into these and my previous questions. It is very much appreciated!

Best,

Ely

Hi Ely,

Thank you for your questions and your interest in our SONNET 3 audio processor.

1.       The drying kit used for the SONNET 3 is the same as the one used for the SONNET 2. We recommend that you dry the audio processor once a day. Please note that this is dependent on the humidity in your environment, excessive perspiration, etc., which could require more frequent use of the drying kit. User kits vary from country to country. We would recommend getting in touch with your local MED-EL team regarding questions about user kits. We cannot discuss future developments; however, we will share your questions and feedback with the responsible team here at MED-EL.

2.       While we cannot discuss features or products that are currently in development, we understand that USB-C connectivity is a highly desired feature among our users. Rest assured, your feedback has been shared with our product development team for their consideration in future updates.

3.       At this time, there is no active partnership with Apple or Android. Bimodal streaming is possible through headphones or earbuds that support the ASHA protocol. However, we will share this feedback with the responsible team here at MED-EL.

4./5.  On the SONNET 2 and SONNET 3 pages, you can find dimension information under the technical details:

SONNET 2 Audio Processor (medel.com)
MED-EL SONNET 3 Cochlear Implant Audio Processor (medel.com)

Please note that the SONNET 3 has only recently been released and is in the process of being introduced to the market. Because of this, detailed information may still be forthcoming.

For more specific questions or personalized assistance, we highly recommend checking out our website: MED-EL SONNET 3 Cochlear Implant Audio Processor (medel.com)

We also recommend getting in touch with your local MED-EL team. They are well-equipped to understand your individual needs and provide you with the most accurate and up-to-date information. You can contact them directly via Contact MED-EL (medel.com)

Thank you for your understanding and patience.

Kind regards

Hi there, thanks for your question. Most of these devices do not support the ASHA or MFi protocols which is why you can't stream directly from them. However, if they do support these protocols, direct streaming is possible.

Kind regards
