@Lsmart Depending on the anatomy, sometimes the surgeon has to move away the cranial nerves when putting the electrode lead to the cochlea. If that's the case, the nerve would suffer some damage from it and it can take months to heal. It's common to hear stories of people regaining the sense of taste after 6-12 months. Possibly some medication could help the nerve mend faster, but that would be something for doctors to discuss.
