HearPeers Heroes Mary Beth Posted September 30, 2019 HearPeers Heroes Report Share Posted September 30, 2019 @MED-EL Moderator I have been listening to the podcasts about ASM 3. Does the Sonnet 2 still have the option for omni mic setting? (All adaptive intelligence features off and stays in omni mic setting. Not the option that only stays in omni in quiet. One that stays in omni always.) I know this is an option in Sonnet 1 but have not seen it listed in Sonnet 2. Thanks Quote Link to comment https://forum.hearpeers.com/topic/4817-sonnet-2-omni-mic-setting-option/ Share on other sites

MED-EL Moderator
Hi @Mary Beth, yes, that is still possible. Directionality works the same as in the former devices. Kind regards, Verena Mary Beth, John R and HuroniaGirl 3 Quote Link to comment https://forum.hearpeers.com/topic/4817-sonnet-2-omni-mic-setting-option/#findComment-31632 Share on other sites

HearPeers Heroes Mary Beth Posted January 18, 2021 Author HearPeers Heroes Report Share Posted January 18, 2021 @John R No Omni is a mic setting- one mic active picking up sounds from all around us. Other mic settings are natural, adaptive and auto adaptive. With ASM 3 active (not yet in the US but active in other countries) we also get other front end preprocessing options like adaptive intelligence mild and adaptive intelligence strong. adaptive intelligence mild setting: -always in natural -ambient noise reduction automatically turns on/off -transient noise reduction automatically turns on/off adaptive intelligence strong setting: -stays in adaptive for speech in quiet, speech in noise and general noise -switches to omni for music -in quiet it remains in whichever mic setting it was in previously (adaptive/omni) -ambient noise reduction automatically turns on/off -transient noise reduction automatically turns on/off John R and Kerem Ozcan 2 Quote Link to comment https://forum.hearpeers.com/topic/4817-sonnet-2-omni-mic-setting-option/#findComment-38626 Share on other sites

I know what Omni Mics are I just have not heard ASM or Omni mentioned with the Sonnet 2 as yet. I even asked that question at switch on but was told "no" the only thing I have active to my knowledge right now is the "Wind reduction" which I also find currently does nothing for me. HearPeers Heroes Mary Beth Posted January 19, 2021 Author HearPeers Heroes Report Share Posted January 19, 2021 @John R Med-El CIs use automatic sound management (ASM). ASM 1 is used by OPUS 2, Rondo 1 and Rondo 2. They all have one omnidirectional microphone. ASM 2 is used by Sonnet 1. (In the US, Sonnet 2 and Rondo 3 are still using ASM 2 because ASM 3 has not been FDA approved yet.). Omni mic setting is a fitting option for our audiologists but is not the default mic setting. ASM 2 introduced natural, adaptive and auto adaptive mic settings and wind noise reduction. ASM 3 is used by Sonnet 2 and Rondo 3 (except not yet in the US). Adaptive intelligence settings are new. Omni mic setting is a fitting option for our audiologists but is not the default mic setting. Personally, I like music in Omni mic setting.
