Medical professionals doing it right- without even asking

Lately I have been meeting a lot of medical professionals for an unrelated health issue.  They have all been very receptive and curious about my bilateral CIs and how best to meet my listening needs during surgeries and treatments.

During the radiation simulation two weeks ago my doctor and I discussed my CIs and communicating with me during radiation treatments- which require the removal of processors.

Today I had my first radiation treatment. The 4 member team were all new to me.  They had been prepped well by my doctor before I arrived.  They were all wearing window face masks to allow speech reading.  They faced me every time they spoke to me.  They knew my processors had to be removed before treatment.  They took the case containing my processors with them to the protected room during treatment.  They tapped me when my treatment was over and it was safe to move.  They immediately handed me my processor case, waited for me to put them back on and then spoke.

They did all of this without needing to be asked or reminded.

They made my first radiation treatment an easy experience.

I feel incredibly lucky.

Good luck on this road you've started down.  It won't be easy but I'm pulling for you. It is comforting to hear that the specialists have involved themselves like that.
