Question for CI users around the world

How is the pandemic impacting your CI appts now?

Is your CI audiologist back at work?  Limited hours/days or full schedule?

Is your CI audiologist wearing a face mask?  How is that impacting your appointment?

Have you had appointments cancelled?  Are they being rescheduled yet?

My audiologist wasn't expected back until June.  I did have an appointment cancelled, but am not looking to reschedule it soon.  I'm not at all comfortable with the idea of "reopening" for business yet.  I plan to stay in my rural community where population density is low and I can easily maintain social distancing until this is much closer to over.

I'm with you @Mary Featherston.

My CI center was closed in March/April but I got an email this week that the facilties have reopened but that email was not from the CI center itself but from the whole hospital.

I don't plan to travel overseas for another year. My airline ticket to Miami is good for another 10 or 11 months. So maybe I will use it for the mapping appointment next year.

Fortunately I can make do with my last mapping which was done in October 2019.

I went back to work this week and while we are at our desks we don't wear our masks. A coworker sitting about 16 feet from me tried to talk to me from his desk but I couldn't make out what was being said. Makes me wonder whether a mapping would fix that. Another coworker did the same thing about 8 ft away and I had the same problem.

The tether for my Rondo2 hairclip broke this week and I didn't notice any replacements in the promo kit I received. I may have to try to find fishing line and make one. I definitely prefer wearing Rondo2 with masks but don't want to risk it falling off my head when I'm out on the road, although it usually does stay in place.

@Jewel I saw the tether and clips on line at the MedEl store. They are pricey but can be ordered. Not as pricey as replacing a lost processor though.

@Mary Beth Yes I have a Roger Pen. Only use it when I have committee meetings and the like and we are around a large table.

Haven't used it for about 3 months. Totally forgot about it. But I wouldn't want to wear Roger 21 all day at work as it is very big for my small ear.

@Tommy C

I'm sure they are pricey. I couldn't order them now anyway as Med-El webshop only ships to the US and I'm not going there anytime soon.

@Jewel ooh, I did not realize that. Maybe the fishing line and an alligator clip from the hardware store is your best choice.

@Jewel

If you see a Roger MyLink neckloop receiver being resold (make sure it is Roger MyLink and not just MyLink), it works with Rondo and Rondo 2.

I was just thinking you could point the Roger Pen in the direction of the coworker who is speaking and it may help you hear her better.  Just a thought.

Lots of Roger MyLink neckloop receivers being resold online.

@Mary Beth

I will try using the Roger Pen liks that and will check on the Roger MyLink as you suggested. Thanks.

I was suppose to get my implant 1 April and got is 16 June thanks to the  pandemic. When I go to the surgeon we email the office  we are it the parking lot and when they are ready for us they message back I put on the mask and  go in. This work so well I hope they keep up this even after the pandemic is over. At the audiologist You walk in and sit and wait. What I do like is they wear see through mask. Wow does that help.

@Ernie

Which CI center/audiologist do you go to?

So this was a question I asked my surgeon last week: what happens if we go back into a lockdown state and I've just had the surgery? Can I still be activated? Their response was comforting, thankfully - they never closed. My hearing aid audiologist did, though, so I guess perhaps adjusting between the two might pose some challenge but hopefully it won't come to that. Ten days and a few hours to go until the big day.

@phobos512

If you're like me you won't miss your HAs. Wishing you well with surgery next week.

yes I do and would love to speak with another user.  Take on holiday and great to give to guide so I can know what is occurring.  However I do not find it useful at a table in restaurant or with a small group.  I do not have a bluetooth phone so have not used it in this situation.

would love for it to work for me within small groups

@Rose

Which device are you referring to giving to a guide but not helpful on a table?

My Audiologist lives in Madrid. I've not met him yet due to the pandemic. However the speech therapist down on the coast has had to learn what to do remotely from the audiologist in Madrid!  When the Audiologist does come it will be interesting for me to see how much difference in opinion regarding Mappings.

The appointments themselves have now become more regular. We wait then go in once she is ready. We wear the masks not the specialist. Although she does have a variety of masks in her office as she does rehab work elsewhere in the day hospital.

@Tracey_66 nice!  Once the pandemic is over you'll have a reason to go to Madrid!  I'd love to see the Prado again.

@Mary Featherston One day. The Prado is one of many on my list to get round to seeing.

The audiologist normally comes down to the coast here from Madrid once a month apparently.

( To do everyone in one go I think).

Due to the pandemic, might at a push, see him October/November time for my next mapping. Otherwise if not then maybe next year.
